I don't see Monterey looking ahead to next week's showdown with Seaside.
For starters, Monte Vista is 7-1 and in the MBL title hunt. Its only loss was to Seaside.
Plus the Mustangs have given Monterey fits over the years. Last year Monterey rallied for a 29-28 win. Two years ago, it held on for a 28-21 win.
For Monte Vista to get a playoff spot, it has to win one of its final two games.

With one more win against either Monterey this week or NMC next week, MVC will have 21.5 points and that whould be enough to make the play-offs as an At Large team. (Current projections are that four teams - Live Oak (20), Alvarez (20), Saratoga (19.5) and SHC (19.5) will end up the season with fewer than 20.5 points. So IF all things were to remain the same MVC would be in and Saratoga or SHC would be out.)
And that would put four teams from the MBL in the play-offs!!
But here is what would really be fun.
Suppose MVC beats Monterey and NMC beats Pajaro Valley this weekend. Then the four MBL teams go into the final weekend all with 4-1 league records and all playing each other.
That would make for GREAT local football.
If it gets to this point, the winners of those games would both go to the play-offs as automatic qualifiers and the losers would both go as At Large teams. Just takes an MVC win over Monterey on Friday to make this scenario happen.
