Falling from the unbeaten ranks in the Monterey Bay League on Tuesday dropped Seaside into a tie for first with Watsonville at 7-1. Lurking in the shadows is Monterey at 5-2.
The Dores, who haven't missed the playoffs in five years, climbed back into the title chase after being awarded a forfeit win over defending league champion Pajaro Valley.
While Carmel is running off with its second straight Mission Trail Athletic League title, three teams are locked in a battle for second in Santa Catalina, King City and Anzar.
The importance of second place is the automatic CCS playoff spot. But with Santa Catalina and Anzar Division V schools, it's conceivable that all four teams will make the playoffs.
North Salinas is two wins away from locking up no worse than a share of its first league title in 13 years -- or before the Tri-County Athletic League existed.
Don't be surprised if five teams from the TCAL make the playoffs.
