If you read between the lines, it's apparent that quarterback Alex Smith and former offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye weren't on the same page.
Is it too late to salvage the season? Of course not. There are 13 games left and the 49ers play in the worst division in football. But will this help Smith emerge?
Because no one wants to here how Smith is dealing with his sixth coordinator in six years.
Smith is never going to live up to being the No. 1 overall pick in 2005. But the fact that his teammates named him captain -- not the coaches -- tells me someone believes in him.
