North Salinas
This is a mystery team. Graduation stripped the Vikings of 28 players — including two 1,000 yard rushers.
At the same time, last year's disappointing three-win season is in the rear view mirror.
Eight teams North Salinas faced last year either had winning records or reached the playoffs. So it wasn't as if the Vikings disappeared after winning their first league title in 25 years in 2008.
Re-dedicating themselves in the off-season has provided a positive outlook coming into the fall. But could the Vikings really put the ball in the air 30 times as coach Steven Zenk has indicated?
It certainly doesn't hurt having quarterback Curt Ceralde.
North Salinas has to trim the penalties and eliminate the turnovers. This is a talented unit that will re-emerge this year in the Tri-County Athletic League.
