Calls for Marina to shut down its football season before even playing a game might be a bit premature.
There's plenty of blame to go around for their early season struggles to put together a varsity team.
You can start with the Monterey Peninsula Unified School Districts decision to pink slip former coach John Montante of his teaching job as part of the districts cutbacks.
Without a job, Montante resigned as coach in May.
All of a sudden a program trying to start up 11-man football had no coach.
Since Marina could not go back to eight-man football because of its enrollment, it should have decided at that point to just field a junior varsity team.
You can read more about this in Sunday's Just a Thought.

Then why was he going to be allowed to continue to coach?
