Monterey County has been producing players in the NFL for the last 35 years. This year five former local standouts will be in trainings camps.
But what about other sports?
Major League Soccer has two former county sensations in the league in Ramiro Corrales (North Salinas) for the Earthquakes and rookie David Estrada (Alisal) with Seattle.
Major League Baseball has one in Salinas graduate Xavier Nady, who is a reserve outfielder with the Cubs. Nady is one of just two players in the county to win a World Series ring, joining Mike Aldrete --- both coming as members of the Yankees.
