Academic transfers

Athletes that attend schools ranked among the worst academically in California can now transfer without any penalty to another school and immediately be eligible to play.
There are at least three schools in Monterey County on that list. Could we see an elite athlete from one of these schools in football possibly transfer to say Carmel, Monterey or Salinas?
I wouldn't rule it out, particularly since families don't have to move. But I doubt it. It's a little late to make a move like that.

Seems to me that there is stil a CIF rule about kids from outside a district being inelligible to play.

However since the new state law puts public schools on a similar footing with private schools (i.e a kid from Carmel can go to Palma and play sports) then if such a CIF policy exists, they may be forced to change it and allow someone who lives in Seaside but who decides to go to Carmel under the new state law to also be eligible for sports at Carmel.

I would agree with John, that the law is too new and vague to affect the upcoming season in football. However the big impact will be on those kids now in middle school. If the law stays on the books and CIF is forced to change their policy to comply with the state law...and/or as a result of lawsuits against their policy...then the parents of kids in middle school have the time to consider whether they want to have their son or daughter attend a "better" school for their high school career.
