College football officials have no intention of changing the playoff — excuse me — bowl system formate to help decide a real NCAA Division I national champion in football.
These guys that run the BCS really believe this is the best route.
Penn State was a missed field goal away from playing for a national title. And they got run out of Pasadena by USC in the Rose Bowl.
Of course, USC lost one game in the middle of the season and it ruined its national title hopes.
Why is it so hard to figure out that bowl games can still be played in a playoff format? Half the bowl games that are played now are taking place in half-empty stadiums. There's no interest.
Find the top eight teams and make it a three-week playoff. Use a couple of those early December bowl games as playoff openers. I bet the crowds would dwarf what bowl games in Tucson or Irving are getting now.
