Selected to the Cal-Hi Sports all-state underclass football team last fall for Palma as a junior, Jack Powers was named to the preseason all-state second team on Wednesday.
A three year starting defensive end for the Chieftains, the 6-foot-5, 260-pound Powers was The Herald's Defensive Player of the Year last fall.
Monterey linebacker Shaunne Katoa was named to Cal-Hi Sports' all-state preseason third team. Last year the 6-foot-2, 235-pounder was also chosen to the all-state underclass team.
