But Bobby Rawles' decision to resign as Alvarez's football coach after three years of laying the ground work makes no sense.
The program was on the verge of taking the next step. After four years of being a joke, it had become competitive this year in the Tri-County Athletic League.
Yes, it was winless in the TCAL. But two games were decided by three points or less. And the Eagles did snap a 25-game losing streak in the preseason.
Rawles says he wants to explore other options. I'm not sure I'm buying it. I know he was up for tenure this year as a teacher. This has to be disappointing to the kids he has built relationships with over the last three years.
What's certain is Rawles wants to coach and teach somewhere.
