Notre Dame-Half Moon Bay softball

Central Coast Section Division II Quarterfinals
Saturday's game
No. 11 Notre Dame (15-9) vs. No. 3 Half Moon Bay (14-10) at Willow Glen High, 2 p.m.
The defending Division II champions are 19-1 in the postseason over the last five years, going on the road Wednesday and dismantling San Lorenzo Valley 9-1.
The Spirits only loss in the playoffs in their last five trips was a 9-2 setback to Half Moon Bay in the 2016 CCS Division III title game.
In 2013, Notre Dame needed just five innings to beat the Cougars 14-1 in the 2013 Division III title game. Its 61 career playoff wins are second only to Carlmont's 69.
Half Moon Bay was just 8-8 in the Peninsula Bay Athletic League, a division that included Carlmont and Hillsdale.
It does have some power at the plate with Riley Donovan and Abby Claudius each having hit seven homers this year, combining for 61 runs batted in.
Donovan is also hitting .438 while Marissa Terra has raised her average to .458 with three bombs. As a team, the Cougars have 25 home runs.
Half Moon Bay, who defeated The King's Academy 2-1 to advance, will face a potent Notre Dame lineup that includes hot hitting Logan Riggenbach.
The sophomore is hitting .475 with 11 home runs. The return of Kaeli Bush from an injury not only shored up the Spirits defense behind the plate, but she's hitting .458 with five homers.
Vanessa Gonzalez is no stranger to pitching in the postseason with a 19-1 record in four years. She sports a 1.62 earned run average this spring with 185 strikeouts in 138 innings.
