North Salinas-Gilroy softball

Central Coast Section Division I Semifinals
Tuesday's game
No. 13 North Salinas (18-7) vs. No. 1 Gilroy (17-9) at the Salinas Sports Complex, 6 p.m.
Two upsets in the first two rounds have put the Pacific Division co-champion Vikings in uncharted waters, as the postseason has become a redemption tour.
Avenging an earlier season setback to Salinas in the quarterfinals Saturday means a rematch with top seed Gilroy, who defeated them 7-4 in both teams season opener back on Feb. 27.
Sofia Gombos has been rock solid in the circle in the postseason for North Salinas, allowing just one run in 14 innings of work.
In fact, she has allowed just three earned runs in her last 30 innings, while striking out 43 for North Salinas, who hasn't played for a section title since 2005.
Gombos has also provided power at the plate with six home runs while hitting .512. Alyssa Allen is hitting over .600 with seven homers and 52 runs batted in.
Gilroy is 7-1 in its last eight games, with the one setback coming from Salinas. It has outscored two playoff opponents 20-2. Its last section title and finals appearance came in 2013.
