Half Moon Bay-Santa Catalina softball

Central Coast Section Division II Semifinals
Tuesday's game
No. 3 Half Moon Bay (15-10) at No. 2 Santa Catalina (19-1) at PAL Stadium, San Jose, 4 p.m.
Both teams rolled seven's in posting wins in the quarterfinals, each scoring seven runs. In fact, seven has been Santa Catalina's run total in each of its first two wins.
Owners of 16 straight wins, the Mission Trail Athletic League champion Cougars haven't been to the semifinals since beating Half Moon Bay in the 2015 quarterfinals.
Santa Catalina is battled tested coming into the game, having battled back from a four-run deficit in its postseason opener, and from two runs down in Saturday's 7-3 win over Notre Dame-Belmont.
Katie Fraley continues to rake at the plate for Santa Catalina, hitting .378 with 30 RBI, while Jessica Clements sits at .588. Emily Hayes has been hot in the postseason with six hits in two games.
Half Moon Bay, who won a section title in 2016 by beating Notre Dame, knocked out the 2017 CCS champions for the second time in three years to advance.
Riley Donovan is hitting over .400 with seven homers for Half Moon Bay, while teammate Abby Claudisu also has seven home runs. Of course, few balls leave the PAL Stadium yard.
A big hurdle for Santa Catalina to get over is shaking off the nerves. It has been outscored 6-0 in the first inning in two postseason games.
