Carmel football

Carmel has completely revamped its non-league schedule, adding Salinas, North Salinas and Soquel, while dropping St. Francis Catholic, Menlo and Monterey.
Soquel for St. Francis is a push. But Salinas and North Salinas are much more physical programs. Carmel agreed to play them on the road.
But because the contracts signed are for just one year, the Padres could have a new non-league schedule in 2012 as well.

On a positive which I will start with...this is a tough schedule for a D4 sized public school. Nothing negative about stength of schedule and a Carmel v Salinas and North Salinas and even Soquel are interesting matchups. I agree that the physical TCAL teams will be an interesting match-up. On the other hand,I don't understand why Carmel doesn't schedule any D4 powers. The last couple years they were in consideration for a state bowl bid, but lost out because the ones picked defeated D4 teams that they were being compared to. Why not try (and maybe they did)to schedule some of those teams? A public school like Escalon or privates like Modesto Christian (which is reasonable), or a Central Catholic (Modesto), and then you have the powers like Palma, Cardinal newman, Marin Catholic? I think the earlier 3 are reasonable. The Palma v Carmel might be a future matchup. I know Palma's schedule was full this coming season. In any event, I really like what Golden and staff is doing at Carmel. A very nice program.
